The package will update Sound Blaster Extigy Drivers (to version 5.); Sound Blaster Extigy Firmware (to version 1.1.020507); Creative Audio Mixer (to version 2.01.15); and reactive diagnostics (to version 2.20.14). The update fixes Cakewalk SONAR 1.3.1 (trial version) detection of Sound Blaster Extigy as a monaural device; the wave volume level changing to the default level after forwarding, rewinding, or muting the track in audio; and the mixer while playing back AC3 files. Also, now the EAX On/Off button in PlayCenter responds correctly to remote control; the fader and center speaker volume in Audio Mixer is accessible after headphones are disconnected; updating drivers in Windows XP no longer requires a system restart; the speaker configuration setting is saved after the restart; and 3D audio processing is improved.

Firmware version 1.1.020507 adds AC3 pass-through; bass management configuration; improved CMSS playback quality; and improved device recognition on system start-up.
П˜Ÿ I had actually called Apple suppport when this problem came up in 10.5.7 and they said they had entered into some internal bug report database. Well it appears they never fixed it, probably simply because they have no Extigy to reproduce the problem (and they have always the 'third party' excuse if a customer complains.).
For now it is not a problem, but the chances are pretty slim that the 10.5.6 kernel extension will still work under Snow Leopard. So this is yet another reason (apart from the usual ones) not to buy & install Snow Leopard when it comes out. That would only make a difference if the 10.5.8 actually patched the installed kernel extension to a new version. I do not think it does that (and if it did, wouldn't there be some check first whether the file which is about to patched is the correct version?).
The update just installs a new version over the existing one, so it is completely irrelevant what version the existing kext has. BTW, I did not bother to analyse it in details, but I think the error messages have changed. So something was 'fixed', but it did not help with the Extigy problem, apparently. Apple Footer.
